The ideal pantomime opening number is upbeat, engaging and has lyrics which help to set the scene or introduce your characters. Often the opening number is a full-scale production set piece, involving most of the company. Here are our suggestions for ten top-tier opening numbers to kick start your production.

Morning Person – Shrek the Musical. A great number for a morning village scene, this one works well for a lead character solo such as Cinderella or Beauty.
A Brand New Day – The Wiz. A brilliant high energy track that the whole cast can get involved in to kick off your show.
I’m Up Early – Free as Air (musical). A bright, traditional number to wake your villagers up.
Where Everybody Knows your Name (theme from ‘Cheers’). The perfect song for the village that your characters call home.
Another Day of Sun – La-La Land. An optimistic number for your hero to lead as the story starts.
Good Day – Early Man(movie). Another optimistic number which your company can share.
A Million Dreams – Greatest Showman. This reflective number works brilliantly as a prologue for your hero with a head full of dreams, for whom the possibilities are endless.
About Damn Time – Lizzo. A very popular modern number for pantos recently, this one needs some lyric changes, notable the title changes to ‘It’s Panto Time’!
It’s a Beautiful Day – Michael Buble. With some minor lyric changes, this catchy, bright number makes a brilliant panto opening.
